English Corner: rich, put up with, and fire
In this episode, I talk about how excitement can sometimes make it hard to sleep—especially when you’re working on something creative and can’t wait to share it, even though it’s not quite ready yet.
I also share a few interesting English phrases I noticed while watching the limited TV series Behind Her Eyes. It’s a short, six-episode drama, so there’s no long wait between seasons, and it turns out to be a great source of natural, everyday English.
The phrases I focus on are:
- That’s rich coming from you – used when someone criticizes you for doing something they are guilty of themselves.
- I don’t know how you put up with me – a way of acknowledging someone’s patience when you’re being difficult or emotional.
- I’d walk through fire for you – an idiom meaning you would do anything for someone because they matter deeply to you.
I explain what each phrase means, how it’s used in context, and why expressions like these are worth paying attention to when learning English through TV shows.
